According to Intersil, power system designers face considerable challenges as performance demands continue to increase. Unless an engineer is an expert at power supply design, it claims, getting it right the first time is very unlikely. But it believes the ISL8200M will make things easier.
The ISL8200M has 'five compelling features', says Intersil: simplicity; lower risk; faster time to market; smaller footprint; and inventory simplification.
The 10A point of load regulator comes in a surface mount package that includes a PWM controller, power mosfets, power inductor and associated discrete components. The device accepts inputs ranging from 3 to 20V and supports outputs from 0.6 to 6V. Up to six modules to be paralleled for a total output current of 60A.
